Teaching experience

SCREENWRITING INSTRUCTOR - Austin School of Film - Austin, TX - March 2013 

Designed and implemented an introductory screenwriting course spanning over 8 weeks. Used short stories, examples of successful short films, as well as feature films and scripts to teach 3 Act Structure. Taught Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey using the film Children of Men (2006). Class met once a week for 3 hours. Class time was divided between regular lecture and class workshop time as needed.

INSTRUCTOR - Austin Film Festival Summer Film Camp - Austin, TX - Summer 2011

Taught two groups of children ages 8 to 18 years of age a crash course in narrative fiction film production. I modeled two 2 week courses to be an accelerated version of RTF 318 at The University of Texas. Students were broken into groups of 4 to 5 that each produced one final project to screen at the end of camp.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, RTF 318 - INTRO TO IMAGE AND SOUND - The University of Texas at Austin - 3 Semesters  

Taught a lab of 18 to 25 undergraduate students basics of narrative structure, screenwriting, still photography, framing and composition, production sound basics, lighting basics and best practices, camera operation, as well as non-linear editing systems and workflow. I was also tasked with assigning, grading, and critiquing their work.

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, RTF 366K - NARRATIVE FILM PRODUCTION - The University of Texas at Austin - 3 Semesters

The course is an introductory class teaching 16mm film for narrative production. My duties included but were not limited to teaching basic lighting, camera operation, and flatbed and digital non-linear editing. I was also present during lecture weigh in on class discussions and critique projects

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, RTF 346 - INTRO TO EDITING - The University of Texas at Austin - 1 Semester

Taught a lab of 18 to 25 undergraduate students basic non-linear digital editing in Final Cut Pro 7 every Friday for 3 hours. I was also present during lecture to help students and critique projects. 

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR, RTF 366D - DIRECTING WORKSHOP - The University of Texas at Austin - 1 Semester

Taught directing labs as needed. I was present during lecture to aid professor in the day’s lesson as well as offer insight and advice from my own practical experience.

TEACHING ASSISTANT, RTF 341C - Sound Design and Mixing - The University of Texas at Austin - 1 Semester

Assisted Lecturer during class, offered advice to students based on practical experience building sound design for my own projects. Assisted students in the use of Pro Tools. 

TEACHING ASSISTANT, RTF 367K - Producing Film and Television - The University of Texas at Austin - 1 Semester

Assisted professor with grading of assignments and exams. Present for lecture when requested by professor. Taught students EP Movie Magic Scheduling/Budgeting software.
